A quick poll as to your favourite stock type.
Mine is UNDOUBTEDLY a Grasping Groove S stock - nothing to me is more beautiful than the lines of a GG S stock, and that to me epitomises the M1903.
Grasping groove S stock
Pistol grip C stock
Non-grasping groove S stock (WW2)
B stock (thought I would include it)
Scant stock (I know, but someone MAY like them
)

C stock, I'm more of a shooter and the C stock just fits me better but when it comes to visual the S stock G/G is my pick.
S type wins the style contest for me. Nothing looks sexier than an '03 in an S stock. For a dedicated shooter the C type wins the race.

My favorite is actually the pre-WWII slimmer C stock. The WWII replacement stock is good, but the pre war stock is more like a
hunting rifle. It is nicely balanced to the action and has that "feel". They're not real common, but they are out there. I have one on
a documented national match that was rebuilt with a 1942 SA barrel for re-issue.
Nothing beats the classic looks of the original S stock with the high hump hand guard. It defines the Model 1903 Springfield.
I agree that the C stock is best for shooting.
I like the Scant stock it just feels better for some reason. Have one on my Remington 03A3.
Looks like so far the "S" stock w/GG is the leader. I like them and voted so, but my favorites are the early ones with "high wood" and one or none, reinforcing bolts. I really like the ones with early script final inspectors markings and all the RI ones since CN used that format until ending of production there in 1913.

I really like the function and feel of the C type stock, the pre-war type especially, but even a grossly oversized Keystone. The raised comb reduces felt recoil, and the full grip allows me to cant the rifle as needed with less effort. The rifle, in my eyes, looks "finished" with a C stock, the straight gripped rifles seem to be holdovers from the muzzleloading muskets.
Sorry, in my eyes, the scant is "fugly", and not much can be done to make it otherwise. There is a place in my collection for straight grip, grasping groove stocks, but I tolerate them, I don't like them. They don't feel good in my hands, and beat the hell out of me when I shoot them. It's the C stock for me!!!
S stock with grasping grooves. Function follows form.

S stock with Grasping Grooves for certain and a high hump handguard.
