I found a complete nickel plated oiler in the butt of the 2nd variety. The bore looks absolutely unused and appears pristine and quite sharp. The rifle has definitely been handled, but by a soldier or a kid who borrowed it from out of his grampa's closet, I don't know. The front sight is the original and is quite tight and has never been removed or changed. It doesn't appear to have any WWII updates or inspection stamps. It appears that somebody liked this Mark I and took it away with them. It's been handled a little and stored a long time over the past 93 years but it is still in its original Mark I configuration as it left Springfield Armory in early 1919. I wonder if I'll ever find a Pedersen Device tucked away in a garage sale around here...? Oh Yea, the bolt is stamped J5 on the safety lug. It's a straight handled, double heat treated bolt. Again, this rifle is all original.

Wow, NICE, very nice. I saw it's brother today, about 5900 numbers away from yours, looks like an identical twin! Same stock condition, same parts except I think it had a swept handle.
You did good!
Kurt
Looks good to me - nice rifle!
