    Default SB249 DEAD in Kalifornia!

    Legislative alert

    SB 249 Pulled From Committee
    NSSF Thanks All Gun Owners

We just learned that in response to overwhelming grass roots opposition from law abiding gun owners and California's firearms industry members SB 249 has been pulled from Assembly Appropriations Committee hearing calendar for Thursday, August 16th. This means that the bill is dead for the year! Congratulations to everyone who responded to our legislative alerts and radio ad and called their California state legislators to oppose SB 249 which would have resulted in the unconstitutional confiscation of lawfully purchased rifles that are fully complaint with California's draconian firearms laws. Without your efforts this victory would not have been possible.

What was in the bill? I'd like to see a bit of it posted here.

The politician, probably at the urging of anti-gun groups, discovered the "fixed 10 round magazine" on M16 or AK47 type rifles could be removed by the use of a special tool to release the "fixed magazine".

"(1) For the purposes of this section, “detachable magazine” means any ammunition feeding device that can be readily removed from the firearm without disassembly of the firearm action. “Detachable magazine” includes a magazine that may be detached from the firearm by merely depressing a button on the firearm either with the finger or by use of a tool or a bullet."

It is my belief this law could be construed to include other rifles such as an M1 Carbine, or an M1A rifle, making it illlegal to have those types of rifles also.

Colt 1911 comes to mind and any other device that has a button to release the mag.But a Colt .22Cal Match Target is ok.

So there's no point in fighting anti-gun legislation?
