    Default Remington 870 Stock Question

Is there a difference between 12 and 20 gauge? I have a 20 gauge 870 Express Magnum with a cracked buttstock. I want to buy another one and see tons of them labelled "12 gauge". Can I use that on a 20 gauge?

more than likely won't fit, frame is larger on a 12 ga.

I have an 870 12 ga down right now and have been working on it for a few weeks. Had to order some parts and it appears everything forward of the receiver is different.

Rem. 870 12 and 20 ga. stocks are not interchangeable. Wish they were, but they are not. 12&16 are the same, and 20,28&410 are the same. IIRC.

If I'm not having another round of CRS (Can't Remember Chit- brain fart) a Rem 1100 20 ga stock just might fit perfect.

Is the crack repairable? With good glue, the repair will be stronger than the wood.

1100, has a lage hole down the center for a return spring tube, the 870 has no long hole,
the 1100, also has a nut on the end of the tube that holds the stock onto the action, the 870, has a small hole for a long bolt that screws into the back of the action.
20 ga and 12 ga stocks wont interchange, 28 and .410 will, maybe 16 and 20..havnt ever tried that swap.
then again, id bet its harder to find a 16 ga stock then a 20 ga.
if it aint broke...fix it till it finally is.

Here is all the dope on Remington shotgun stocks.

12 ga. stocks also fit 16 ga. and Standard 20 ga. ( 20 on a 12 frame, no longer produced).

LT 20 stocks also fit LW 20 and 28 and .410 recievers.

An 1100 stock will fit an 870 reciever but a new, longer, stock bolt and washers is required.

The 870 Express 20 ga. will be on an LT frame, so no, a 12ga. stock will not fit it.
