    Default Scope base from MidwayUsa

    Hello everyone,

    I have a Remington 1903A3 that I purchased from CMP and want to add a scope to it. I was wondering if anyone has had experience with the scope base on sale at MidwayUsa.com below:

    http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct...tNumber=229381

    and below is the scope I already have available:

    I will be shooting in the 200-500 yard range and wanted to know if I need to purchase anything else than the scope base and its proper rings. All help and suggestions are appreciated!

    Thank you,

    Miguel Vela

    Default Stop

    don't drill and tap the reciever and ruin the rifle.

    Default Scopr mounting...........

    CMP M1903A3 rifle = $500
    Scope = $79.95
    Base = $20
    Gunsmith fees to change safety, alter bolt handle, D & T reciever = $200

    Value of rifle when all is done = $150

    Go buy a brand new Marlin XS7 bolt action rifle for $329 and put your $79.95 Bushnell scope on it and shoot it all you want.

    If you still want to put a scope on your A3, the base you showed will work perfectly.

    FWIW,

    Emri

    Another option is to look for a rifle that's already D&Td. It might take a little while to find one in the condition you want. On any given day there are a few on Gunbroker. You should be able to find an 03 sporter for around $300. Save your CMP 03a3. If you D&T it, you will likely regret it later. My 2 cents.

    those bases are NOT real Redfield, made in CHINA...the holes are always off.
    JUNK. POS...
    find a rifle thats already drilled and done..save your money.
    save your money on the scope,
    for about 75.00 more you can find a good one that will last forever..
    Bushnell, Tasco, Simmons, are not good quality scopes.

    USA made Weaver, Redfield, Burris, Leupold, are good scopes.

    Nikon, Pentax are ok, but dont seem to handle hard use.

    Same based was used on 1903A4's. The rear ring takes a bit of fiddling to get right. You loosen one side and tighten the other.
    "...need to purchase anything else..." Nope. Mind you, if you have a full military '03A3, drilling and tapping the holes will drop its value by half.
    "...Scope = $79.95..." Geezuz!
    Spelling and grammar count!

    the Redfield marked bases sold today, in the plastic wrap, are nothing like the originals..they are JUNK, no other way of putting it.
    the holes are never the same on any 3 bases, they are soft, and usually bent,
    and made in China...look on the back side of the package.

    Woow...good info guys. I was told that, the mount from Midway, could be mounted without drilling and tapping. Is this correct? Because I would go as far as to take off my rear sight to mount a scope, but I would never drill into my 03A3. If this mount is requires drilling/tapping, can someone please show me a mount that doesnt require D/T and altering my bolt?

    Thanks again!

    check S&K for their instanmounts, you might have to do some stock inletting but the S&K mounts dosn't require drilling and tapping

    or just learn to appreciate the old rifle for what it is and shoot ironsight
