    Default New 1917 and Krag

Just traded a Remington 7600 30-06 for these two war horses. Hope I didn't do too bad. I don't have a clue about 1917's or Krags. Both have beautiful cartouches and both have great bores. The farmers son needed a good hunting rifle and I collect War Rifles. Thanks for lookin and thanks for any info you can give me.

One says, U.S. Model of 1917 Remington. Everything seems to have a R except for the bolt pull out lever. The cartouch is AA with what looks like a larger I after it. then in a box under the AA is 3GM-K. The grip has a circle with a unreadable letter in it with a small ""Y" above it.

The other says MODEL 1898 U.S. Springfield Armory. The cartouch is a rounded square with three fancy letter and a 1902 in it. A nice fancy P is on the pistol grip.

The farmer has another Krag with the exact same wording on it but a better cartouch. The rifle looked in as good of condition as the one I picked out. He was asking $300 for the rifle, but I didn't have the cash at the time. Good or bad deal?

Looks like you did real good with the M1917. Remington & Winchesters are more sought after vs. the Eddystone. My Eddystone shoots well with the heavy grain ball (165 or higher), and is a fun rifle to shoot.

BTW, any date or markings on the barrel??

R 9-18 on the barrel. It may be the original being the rifle was made 11-18. I had an eddystone not long ago. It was one of the three sell to pay for divorce rifles. haha. Anyhow, the eddystone I had shot better than any mil surplus rifle I've ever shot. I don't shot them much, but I'll give a range report one of these days.
