    Default scope question

I picked up an ar/m16 scope with integral see though mount at a gunshow today. It in only marked 'Colt' with 'made in USA' under it. No serial numbers, no other markings. It has an inverted post reticule. It's clear, solid, and seems to adjust properly. Two questions for all the paragons of wisdom - when would it have been made, and what's an approximate current value. I'm mounting it and will try it out tomorrow. Incidentally how did it adjust? there is a small knob on the side I'd guess is windage. Outside of the range knob on top is there an elevation adjustment? Really appreciate my normal 'lurking' on this site.

    Respects

    pics would help,

I have a Colt, japanese made, standard heavy crosshairs, that has the elevation adjustment inside the range knob,

there was a thread over on AR15.com in the retro AR section that detailed the differences in the scopes, there were several different versions,

Thanks, I'll try that site. How well does your scope work?

    works very well,
but honestly the cross hairs are a bit big for precision target work, but then again, that's not what it was made for!!!

Seems like mid-late '90's. I can't recall seeing one in more recent years since the CQB flat-top sighting systems became so popular.

my scope is mid or early 70's IIRC,

if his is an original Colt, (USA made) it would be earlier than my scope, the newer ones are made in Japan, (then Taiwan?)

a similar scope was used for the AR-18, with the inverted post, (similar scope body, different mount) around the same time period

pics of the OP's scope would help a great deal in dating it,

and you're correct, the CQB type uppers and scopes are much more prevalent now, (and a lot easier to use!!)

I've posted two pix on photobucket. I'm not sure hot this references. Between work and drenching rain I haven 't tried it out. Thanks for the interest.

    sorry for the delay,

I could not find the thread on another forum that had the info I was looking for, (guess I need to start a file for some of this stuff!)

here's a link to some info, but nothing that really dates anything

Mine is marked exactly like the first of the ones pictured in the thread. It has the narrow 'colt' script and the 'Made in USA marking. I got a few rounds off between the raindrops this weekend. Interesting sight pix with the inverted post. The post is thicker, but sort of translucent. It works pretty well.
