Came across a C-S marked mag with a S on the top of the toe. Am I correct that these were Scoville mags contracted to Colt? Also this mag has a very smooth silver finish almost like dulite. Were any made in other than a blue finish? Thanks Truman

Scoville had a contract with Colt to make these mags for their Colt 1911A1 pistols. The only finish that would be correct is Blue.

Interestly enough, were formerly American Pin Co. 'A' WWI contractor for magazines.
According to Clawson the first magazine assemblies from Little were delivered to Colt in the fall of 1942.
To go back a bit, the M.S. Little Company provided all the components for manufacturing the magazines, and Risdon and Scovill assembled the components under contract for Little. The magazines assembled by Risdon and Scovill had their respective markings.
I'd also add that Colt pistols with all 3 magazines have been purchased out of the woodwork from non-collector sources with serial numbers dating into the spring of 1943 which still had pinned based comm/mil transeferred mags with no markings on the base. These pistols I know about and consider original were in the 902xxx-939xxx serial range.
I suspect there was an overlap in the type of magazines shipped with pistols from late 1942 to early 1943. I think it is safe to say the welded base contract magazines were probably shipped with most pistols after 940,000, and the pinned base mags were depleted by about then.
