    Default Philip B. Sharpe-Mysterious Death

Having read both of Mr. Sharpes' books, and seeing many references on Google referring to his experiences and knowledge, several have notes that contain the words "his mysterious death." Did he suffer from the Vince Foster syndrome, wherein he knew too much and couldn't be silenced the legal way and the only way to hide the truth was to bury it. Inquiring minds [mine] want to know.

I've seen this several other places. That motivated me to do some digging and so I wrote a short post about Captain Philip Burdette Sharpe for my blog.

The gun shooting around the corner, mentioned in the info was a German development, Sharpe wrote allot about it in his 2nd.ed. Rifle in Amer. He also did not think much of any foreign military rifles, more or less labeled them as junk. Very one sided in his opinions in that respect.

Thanks, very interesting, but it does seem odd that "mysterious" was applied to his demise.

It does seem odd, doesn't it? I don't think I've found a single obvious reason for this either.
    Sincerely,

Thanks for your research Hobie. I have "The Rifle in America" and find it a very useful resource even today nearly 60 years after it was revised.

    Regards,
