    Default 97 Winchester Trench Shotgun

I have located a 97 trench shotgun, but is does not have a butt plate. What type of butt plate was used on the military shotguns? Was it the standard Winchester, or was it metal?

If it is a take down the most common is the black plastic butt plate. Early solid frames might have had a metal one. But again, the black plastic is the most common.

All M1897 and M97 trench guns would have originally had a black plastic buttplate with the Winchester logo on it. The metal buttplates are replacements.
