    Default WWII Army Rifle Squad

Anyone know why a WWII Army rifle squad would have a single M1903 rilfe? Is it for grenade launching?

Perhaps, I don't know when M1's were fitted to launch grenades but I think it was later in the war. Or could it be a sniper? Knowing the date on your picture (TM?) would help.

The image had already been posted online by a former Marine who was comparing Marines' ability to adapt at the squad level versus the Army. I have no way of determining TM publish date. Thanks. Just curious.

The M7 Grenade Launcher for the M1 rifle was not field issued in any quantity until after April of 1944 and all units were not fully equipped even by D-Day. The Assistant Squad Leader was issued a M1903 primarily to launch grenades as you supposed.
