For a person getting commissioned out of R.O.T.C., and having already gone through the one month course at maxwell, what would be the additional one month course at maxwell be about prior to reporting to the permanent duty base?

Another question
what would be some suggestions for a gift for a good kid getting his commission in the Air Force?
That he could take with him during his career?
Perhaps something towards the uniform allowance?

Best gift I received while at language school the first year of my Army enlistment was an electric razor with a trimmer that popped out. Hair around the ears need constant attention and one cannot always get to the barber. If your family member is a male and opts for a mustache, this gift really pays dividends in the trim department.

An ROTC graduate isn't finished with his training. He has a degree, presumably his 'Basic' but not much else. John has the right idea. Pay for some of his non-issue kit. Whatever that may be.
I'm guessing, but I suspect the one month course may have to do with becoming an officer. Dress, drill and deportment for FNG officers. What fork to use, etc. As daft as it sounds.

That would help him get over some of the a$$ kissing that it takes to get by as an AF officer.
Or perhaps a good set of golf clubs. He will use them almost daily.
How come it is always too something... Too hot, too cold, too soon, too late, too much, too little, too deep, too shallow, but always "too" something.
Air and Space Basic Course

Air University at Maxwell is the umbrella organization for most AF formal education. Air & Space Basic Course is for all new LTs and the course was 6 weeks but is being split into 2 with some overlapping days. New ROTC officers have additional time requirements as well. When you're a newby, they tell you where to go, when to go, etc etcNice base - my baby daughter (last of 4, 16 now) was born there. As far as a gift that he can keep with him for a career, see if he will send you his his commission certificate (DD Form 1) and have it nicely framed. He will (hopefully) suspect what you're doing, but it is an excellent gift that he will keep to pass on to his children. It is a very meaningful document, and I know he will be honored.

That reminded me. I do have a framed commission. But it was signed by George III in 1805
Mine was signed by George I; my first discharge (1970) I got a "Thanks of a Grateful Nation" signed by Tricky Dick...
You and I joke about them, but to our grandkids & beyond they will be more than that. I can say that with conviction, because every scrap of paper relating to my uncle who was killed 6 Jan 45 in the Ardennes is precious to me and to his descendants. I pray this young man will while away his time in peacetime practice, but I know he took the oath and is ready to serve. I salute him and all others who served and those who do so now!
